3 girls sitting at a bar celebrating with cocktails at the royal bar in amarillo, texas

Cocktails with Character

History tells us a speakeasy used to operate in the basement of the now Barfield Hotel in Downtown Amarillo during prohibition. There’s a side door at the Barfield Hotel off 6th Ave. Look to your left for the staircase and head down. You can only imagine the Western art deco vibe the Paramount Recreation Club would have had, and the unique drinks they would have served. A restored cigarette machine from the era still sits down there. While it doesn’t dispense any cigarettes, we’d recommend giving the Paramount Cigarette lever a pull — especially if you’re thirsty.

Remember the corner cafe in Paris or Florence you visited, the one that transformed into a cocktail bar in the evenings? Recapture that feeling of “I’ve never been cooler than this” at Royal Bar. An instant favorite amongst Amarillo locals, the Royal Bar serves up some of the area’s best coffee as well as some of the most expertly crafted cocktails; all in a chic, modern space that maintains a cozy-cool atmosphere.
