Annual Events

While you're in Amarillo we hope that you have time to catch one of the major annual events that make Amarillo the fine city that it is. Here is a list of the events you can't miss during your visit:

May
  • Starlight Theater Free Summer Concert Series offers free music, local food trucks, vendors and family-friendly fun Tuesday evenings at Sam Houston Park from 7PM to 9PM from the end of May to the end of August.

June
  • Texas Route 66 Festival Route 66, the road that shaped America, is turning 100 years old in 2026! The annual Texas Route 66 Festival will kick off years of celebrations starting in 2023 leading up to the centennial of Historic Route 66. The 10 day festival is held the first week of June each year.  The ten days are packed with events along the Texas route including classic car shows, Texas Route 66 bus tours, cattle drives, parades, music festivals, and a grand finale festival on Amarillo’s Route 66 Historic District. 
  • Coors Cowboy Club Ranch Rodeo pits area’s ranches in friendly but serious competition. The Coors Cowboy Club Cattle Drive kicks off the weekend. Early June. coorsranchrodeo.com. 806-376-7767.
  • Amarillo Coors Cowboy Club Cattle Drive The annual cattle drive kicks off the Coors Cowboy Club Ranch Rodeo each year. The Cattle Drive consists of sixty longhorns along with other motorized groups and riders that parade from downtown Amarillo to the Tri-state Fairgrounds in a procession that harks back to the emergence of Amarillo as a premier cattle shipping market in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
  • June Jazz is held every Tuesday in June on the Amarillo College campus offers a free Jazz concert featuring different local Jazz bands each week.

  • Will Rogers Range Riders Rodeo - local cowboys have been gathering over the July 4th holiday for more than 70 years. willrogersrangeriders.com. 806-622-2102.
  • National Day of the Cowboy helps everyone understand what it takes to be a cowboy. Last Saturday in July. aqha.org 806-376-4811.

  • Tri-State Fair & Rodeo is one of Amarillo’s oldest events with rides, food, exhibits, and action. Mid-September. tristatefair.com 806-376-7767.

  • Good Times Celebration® Barbecue Cook-Off brings together over 100 cooking teams with thousands of barbecue fans. Second Thursday of September. amarillo-chamber.org 806-373-7800.
October
  • Hoodoo Mural Festival Each year muralists from around the country contribute new murals to downtown Amarillo as part of an urban beautification project. Once the murals are complete there's a huge celebration in downtown Amarillo featuring big-name music artists. 
  • Jazztober by Center City Free Jazz concerts are held every Tuesday evening in October on the lawn of the Historic Bivins Home in downtown Amarillo. centercity.org 806-372-6744.
  • Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association Wrangler World Championships determines who is the fastest and most accurate shot from horseback. Mid-October. cowboymountedshooting.com 806-376-7767.
  • Oktoberfest at Starlight Ranch Event Center offers a Bavarian experience with German beer, fresh pretzels, an entertaining wiener dog race, and more. bigtexan.com/starlight-ranch-event-center 806-556-4456
November
  • WRCA World Championship Ranch Rodeo is the real deal. Cowboys from ranches across the West are in town for this serious rodeo. The second weekend of November. wrca.org 806-374-9722.
  • Christmas in the Gardens gets you ready for the Holiday Season with a stroll through the Amarillo Botanical Garden’s glowing foliage. End of November through right before Christmas. amarillobotanicalgardens.org 806-352-6513.

December
  • Center City Electric Light Parade kicks off the holiday season. The first weekend in December. centercity.org 806-372-6744.
  • Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum Christmas Open House, with singing and treats and Santa lining the halls of the state’s largest history museum. The first weekend in December. panhandleplains.org 806-651-2244.
