ITINERARIES

Past, Present, Future

Day 1: Arrive in Amarillo around noon and hotel check-in. Afternoon visit one of your chosen museums (see list below) and have dinner in one of the many restaurants in the city.

Day 2: Breakfast at the hotel or one of the ranches' western breakfasts (reservations needed). Visit another of Amarillo's finest museums, lunch along historic Route 66. Stroll the "Route" and browse in the varied shops. Head downtown to see some of the historic homes along Polk Street; then drive west to Cadillac Ranch bring our your inner artist by spray painting your designs on the cars. For the evening (depending on the time of the year and day) attend the musical outdoor drama TEXAS in Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

Day 3: Breakfast either at hotel or one of the ranches. Before leaving town drop into Wolflin Village, Wolflin Square or the Georgia Street Arts & Crafts Mall for some last minute shopping.

Nature Adventures

Day 1: Arrive in Amarillo by noon and hotel check-in. Enjoy an afternoon visit to the Amarillo Botanical Gardens with the Bivins Conservatory; hike the trails at Wildcat Bluff Nature Center (check for evening programs); plan dinner at a restaurant of your choice. Day 2: Breakfast at the hotel or a chuck wagon breakfast at Elkins or River Breaks Ranch (reservations needed). Then visit the Don Harrington Discovery Center & Space Theater and/or take a Jeep Tour at Elkins Ranch and/or hike or drive in Palo Duro Canyon State Park; this evening attend the outdoor musical TEXAS in the canyon (summer only)

Day 3: Breakfast at the hotel or a chuck wagon breakfast at Elkins or River Breaks Ranch (reservations needed). Depart Amarillo for Alibates Flint Quarries and/or Lake Meredith National Recreation Area; continue your trip or return to Amarillo for the eveing.

Amarillo Arts

Day 1: Arrive in Amarillo by noon and hotel check-in, visit Amarillo Museum of Art. Plan for dinner at one of the many restaurants in the city. Click here to view the Dining Guide. Then choose (depending on the time of the year) attending a performance of the Amarillo Opera, Lone Star Ballet, Amarillo Symphony at the Amarillo Globe-News Center for Performing Arts. You may choose instead a play at Amarillo Little Theatre, the musical outdoor drama TEXAS, or one of the great performances in the Broadway Spotlight Series. Day 2: Breakfast at the hotel and departure, or take a little extra time to visit one of the many galleries in the city.

The Old West

Day 1: Arrive in Amarillo around noon and hotel check-in. Choose your events for the day, i.e. Cowboy Roundup & Chuck Wagon Cook-off (June); Go shopping for western gear.

Day 2: Choose a western breakfast at either Elkins or River Breaks Ranch; check out the Amarillo Livestock auction (Tue. only) and maybe stay for lunch at the Stockyards Café. Check out the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum. Depending on the time of year, attend one of the great equestrian events held at the Amarillo National Center, such as rodeos, team penning, cutting, etc. Most all are accompanied by a world class bit& spur show. Maybe you'd enjoy attending a performance of Indian dances at the Kwahadi Museum of the American Indian. For dinner choose one of the many restaurants in the city. Day 3: Breakfast at the hotel and maybe some last minute shopping

Student/Youth Groups

Day 1: Arrive in Amarillo in the afternoon and hotel check-in. For the evening (depending on time of the year) visit Wonderland Amusement Park, Route 66 Motor Speedway, Amarillo Dusters indoor football game or Amarillo Bulls ice hockey game. If applicable attend one of the many equestrian events at the Amarillo National Center.

Day 2: Breakfast at hotel; visit Discovery Center & Space Theater, Kwahadi Museum of the American Indian, Amarillo Zoo or American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum, Wildcat Bluff, Palo Duro Canyon, or musical outdoor drama TEXAS.
