In the late spring of 1969, I started my hospitality career as a bellboy at the Powers Hotel in downtown Fargo…$.65/hour plus tips! Now, over thirty years later, I’m honored to be the VP of the Amarillo Convention and Visitors Council. It’s great to be with this great group of professionals at the Amarillo Chamber! I’ve been a CVB director my entire career, starting in December 1981 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. I have also served in Lincoln, Nebraska and over 13 years on South Padre Island, Texas. I have always been deeply involved in the industry. I’m a past chair of the Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus and a former board member of the Texas Travel Industry Association. I still serve on the TTIA legislative committee. Look forward to seeing everyone in Amarillo!
I was born in Amarillo and began working part time for the Convention and Visitor Council as the weekend clerk at the Visitor Information Center in May 2005. I was promoted to be the manager of the Visitor Information Center in April 2006, until July 2012 when I became Executive Assistant for Dan Quandt at the Amarillo CVC.
Hello, I’m Eric Miller. I moved to Amarillo in 1997 with every intention of being Mr. Mom. But, this job found me, and I’m glad it did. Amarillo is full of proud residents who are ready to help tell the story of this independent city. So, from local news to national and international outlets, being the community's spokesperson is a daunting task. But, I love it, and I take the responsibility very seriously. I used to hear people say they stopped in Amarillo on the way to another destination. More and more, now, I hear from people who stop in Amarillo and really take the time to look around. That makes my day! Better still, my colleagues are among the most experienced in the business and the friendliest people I have worked with. I know you’ll say the same thing after getting to know all of us and the city we represent!
I joined the Amarillo CVC team as an intern, later became the Communications Assistant, and was most recently promoted to Interactive Media Manager. I specifically focuses on digital, social and new media. I am on hand to assist in all communications efforts with a focus on social media including: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram and more.
