Juneteenth is a national holiday celebrating the liberation of freed slaves after the Civil War.
Although President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, it wasn’t until 1865 that General Ranger came down to Texas to inform slaves of their freedom.
