Downtown Amarillo welcomes its first hotel with the opening of the Courtyard by Marriott Amarillo Downtown in the historic Fisk Building.

With 107 rooms on 10 floors, the new property is on Polk St, Amarillo’s historic main street, and the site of recent restaurant and club development as part of a greater downtown re-development effort for Amarillo. The new property features both suites and traditional guest rooms with a 24-hour business center, casual entertaining in the lobby restaurant and bar, a free parking garage for guests, a GoBoard in the lobby (a digital concierge for guests) and many other amenities.

The Courtyard by Marriott Amarillo Downtown is steps away from the major business addresses in Amarillo and a short walk from all the activity at the Amarillo Civic Center and Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.

The entire project cost $12.7 million, which represents the largest private investment in Amarillo’s central business district in over 40 years. It received $1.7 million in assistance from the TIRZ (Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, which was established by taxing entities to provide incentives to downtown development). The Courtyard was developed, and is managed by, Newcrest Management, LLC of Dallas, TX.

The 11-story Fisk Building has been in Amarillo since 1927. It was designed by noted local architect Guy Carlander and for years served as a medical professional building. It is at the corner of Polk St. and 8th Ave.

“The Courtyard by Marriott at the Fisk will not only be the premier place to stay while doing business or visiting downtown, but it will also be a great example of historic preservation of one of Amarillo’s finest buildings,” Beth Duke, executive director of Center City of Amarillo, says.
