The Amarillo Convention & Visitors Bureau, a part of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, has hired a new convention sales manager for the important state market.

Cherry Kay Abel joins the convention sales staff as the office’s first full-time representative in Austin.

“This hire is great from two points of view. First, Cherry Kay brings lots of experience in the meeting planning and sales world to the staff. And second, her extensive Austin contacts will help the Amarillo CVC remain competitive, as other Texas cities are placing full-time convention sales representatives in Austin,” Jerry Holt, Amarillo CVC Vice President, says.

Her primary sales territory will be the state associations so prevalent in the state capital.

“After years of experience planning meetings and conventions for Texas Health Information Management Association, I am ready to take on the challenging world of sales and promotions for the Amarillo CVC,” Abel says.

She is completing her Certified Meeting Professional credential this summer.

Abel graduated from Concordia University in Austin, TX, in 1996 with a BA in Business Management.

Her first day on the CVC staff is May 2. She replaces Tiffany Redinger on the CVC convention sales staff.
