Starlight Ranch welcomes Steve Earle to the stage with Ray Wylie Hubbard on September 2nd!
One of the most celebrated singer/songwriters of his generation, Steve Earle first won an audience as a country artist, though it didn't take long for him to demonstrate that designation was too narrow to embody all he had to say. Earle's songs and his approach to performing them run the gamut from country to bluegrass to rock to folk to blues, and his populist lyrical stance, literate yet down to earth, finds room for the personal and the political, writing about the stuff of everyday lives as well as the forces that shape and define their existence. He staked his claim to country stardom with 1986's Guitar Town, and took on a harder rock sound on 1988's commercial breakthrough Copperhead Road. He re-emerged in the mid 90’s stronger and healthier with two of his most critically acclaimed albums, 1995's Train A Comin' and 1996's I Feel Alright. Earle celebrated his love for bluegrass on 1999's The Mountain (cut with the Del McCoury Band).
After many musical ventures, Earle returned to personal themes on 2011's I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive, and made a full-bodied return to country sounds with 2017's So You Wannabe an Outlaw and 2020's Ghosts of West Virginia, the latter of which chronicled the 2010 mining explosion that killed 29 workers. Earle has the rest of 2022 mapped out. After the release of JERRY JEFF, he’ll hit the road on June 1st with the Dukes. After that, he’ll teach Camp Copperhead, his songwriting camp, in Big Indian, New York, and, of course, make a stop at Amarillo’s Starlight Ranch in September!
Ray Wylie Hubbard. Poet. Trickster. Songwriter. Hubbard has twisted the mystic, the quixotic and the profane into songs for more than half a century on a journey that has crossed paths with the most acclaimed and quirky artists of our time. With a love of life, characters and a certain funky beat, the Oklahoma-born, Texas-dwelling creative took part in the embrace of 2020’s CO-STARRING – the all-star project that included Don Was, Joe Walsh, Ringo Starr, Ronnie Dunn, Peter Rowan, Larkin Poe and Aaron Lee Tasjan, among others. We are excited to welcome his amazing music to the Starlight stage alongside Steve Earle on September 2nd!
