Lake Meredith National Recreation Area announces the summer’s “Paddle-Up” kayaking program for the 2019 season. Programs will be given on Saturdays starting Saturday, June 1, 2019 and every Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. until August 24, 2019. We ask that you arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. at Spring Canyon for the safety briefing and equipment instruction.
Tours will last one and a half hours. The special tours will lead visitors through the canal waters around Spring Canyon, located just below the Sanford Dam. Never been in a kayak? No problem! Join our park staff and come out to recreate in your National Park.
Saturdays: Join rangers for a day of history and recreation around the Stilling Basin of Spring Canyon. Tours are available for 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. (weather permitting). Rangers will take visitors back in time to key periods of history for Lake Meredith while learning about wetlands, preservation and how to safely kayak. Visitors will have a one-of-a-kind experience in the Texas Panhandle.
Kayaks, paddles, and personal flotation devices will be provided by park staff. Visitors should bring water, sunscreen, waterproof bags for electronics, and clothing you don’t mind getting wet. Tours are made by reservation only and limited to 12 visitors per tour, ages 10 and up. Reservations are available one month in advance. Tours may be cancelled or shortened due to poor weather.
Stop by the Lake Meredith National Recreation Area Headquarters or call (806) 857-3151 to make your reservations and get more information regarding the “Paddle-Up” kayak programs as well as other Ranger-led programs.
