Fritch, Texas – Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument is located in a remote location, but provides one of the best viewing locations of the night skies in the Texas Panhandle. The Alibates Star Party is scheduled for Saturday, August 11, 2018. This event is part of the Night Skies Program in which we celebrate evening activities in the park. Activities will begin at 8:45 p.m. with a theater presentation followed by the outdoor viewing which should begin shortly after 9:00 p.m.
Participants should bring outdoor clothing, lawn chairs and insect repellent. Activities are free and open to the public. In case of inclement or cloudy weather, only the outdoor viewing portion of the program will be canceled. For additional information, please call Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument at 806-857-6680 to sign up for the Star Party.
Be sure to stop by the Alibates Visitor Center bookstore and pick-up for purchase “The Night Sky” Planisphere. Using this Planisphere even beginners will be able to find and identify stars and constellations within minutes. Simply align the date with the current time and “The Night Sky” will show you what stars, constellations, and prominent deep sky objects you can see from this location. The Planisphere is great for sharing with friends, children, grandchildren or relaxing on your own. Take it on evening outings, camping trips, or simply explore the night sky from your own backyard
